Google tops Greenpeace IT ranking

Apple

excluded from Cool IT Leaderboard failure "to look for opportunities to boost energy solutions"

Google today took the first annual budget of Greenpeace Cool IT Leaderboard efforts of technology companies and classification of the environment, taking the crown of networking giant Cisco.

The group said Google influential campaign had reached the top of the table in the back of his high-profile investment in renewable energy projects and their vocal support of U.S. policy specific to energy and EU efforts to increase its ambitious climate change.

However, the group turned their fire on Apple, refusing to include the signature of the classification on the basis that do not meet the criteria of classification.

"[Apple] has not shown leadership or elected to seek market opportunities to boost energy solutions that many of its competitors, despite record profits and large cash reserves," The campaign group said in a statement.

Facebook has also been excluded from the list, but Greenpeace has confirmed to be included in the list next year after the social networking giant announced late last year after a campaign high against the dependence of society on coal plants to adopt a new policy for renewable energy sources wherever possible.

"The IT industry could adopt a common vision, but it is too quiet, while the dirty energy sector continues to exercise undue influence over political and financial markets".
Google

in the table, followed by Cisco, which has become the first former position, and Ericsson and Fujitsu in joint third place.


Dell was also commended for the supply of more than a fifth of its energy from renewable sources, while the Japanese company Softbank telecom also noted for his role in the application for a transition to renewable energy after the disaster of Fukushima.
