As GoDaddy Deals With SOPA Fallout, Hollywood Wants To Punish GoDaddy For Enabling Infringement

We have always been a bit surprised by the initial support of COICA GoDaddy / PIPA / SOUP. As noted in the fall, in the original definitions of SOUP GoDaddy itself was almost certainly a malicious site . If you have tried several brands, their recommendation engine is certainly appeared to facilitate the offense by suggesting possible areas that would probably be in violation. What really forgotten is that GoDaddy has already been prosecuted for that same question (which, if

think

his legal team would hyper-aware of what problem) and (even better) that the request comes from Hollywood, its main partner in the conduct SOUP / PIPA by Congress.

Yes, the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), better known as the people behind the Academy Award (Oscar), has launched legal action against GoDaddy in May 2010 on the same subject. And last week, as GoDaddy was to reach agreement with public complaints, AMPAS has appeared in court trying to force the founder and former GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons of making a statement about the practices Company.

The linked article above, by Eriq Gardner THResq, said many people believe that mixed messages are from Parsons ... unique style of business management:

... before February 1 deadline for discovery, AMPAS wants to depose Parsons, whose "footprints are everywhere GoDaddy domain name monetization programs," the report said.

And in the process, perhaps get answers about why Parsons apparently did not have two faces on the front of piracy.

An example given is a message that Parsons wrote in his blog. In this paper, Parsons disagrees with the practice known as "kites", where the registrar to take advantage of a grace period of 5 days to put mini-sites loaded with search engine bait. Later in his blog, Parsons says a lawsuit against Dotster brand - "a secretary who has not exactly been a stranger in the kingdom of comets," he said - to save the sins of spelling of many brand names, and associate pages in search engines.
"This is exactly AMPAS complaint in this case," says the actor. " its mark is famous and known, that monetizes domain names incorporating GoDaddy registered trademarks of AMPAS - Received 60 cease / desist letters to AMPAS - however, still parked domain names incorporating trademarks of AMPAS. "
Now, as I said, when AMPAS filed, this case seems pretty ridiculous, and it seems useless to blame GoDaddy for the actions of its users who register in these areas - even if (as the trial), GoDaddy makes money the park people of these areas. We call it "absurd" when ... and we are about it.
