More And More Internet Infrastructure Players Coming Out To Say How Bad SOPA/PIPA Are

We observed in the past that most people who really understand the basic infrastructure of the Internet were against SOPA and PIPA. This includes both individuals and businesses (such as OpenDNS and Dyn), but it seems we are at a crossroads, with tons and tons of Internet infrastructure companies to denounce these bills. We talked about a strong response from GoDaddy ... but it is interesting to note that some registrars and hosting companies are using this as an opportunity to speak out against SOPA and PIPA. Hover, Dreamhost, Name.com and NameCheap have made explicit statements on their blogs. Back in space DNS, easyDNS wrote a blistering anti-SOUP message on his blog:

If this becomes law, it is a short section from the SOPA NODA (No dissent online anywhere) and if you think I'm crazy for saying this, I would like to remind everyone what happened a little over a year, when American politicians used to focus on close Wikileaks (a fiasco in which the company was involved) and to date have not been charged with a crime n 'anywhere.
  • lot of "dirty tricks" used against Wikileaks would be enshrined in law in the soup (and one day, Noda):

The requirement for service providers to block access to offending areas even stop to resolve DNS
search engines to purge search results for offending areas
payment processors to cut ties with the offending areas

It adds an additional provision is a crime knowingly to create a service or system to provide a solution to a forbidden area or host. For example, no longer have to worry about Mozilla to remove Firefox plugin that allows you to reach blocked sites ICE would be illegal to make or distribute.
And that's not all. As drive the point home, a relatively new group called the Coalition SaveHosting just released a letter signed by over 300 business leaders involved in Internet infrastructure, saying they are against SOPA. The entire letter, included below, is worth reading. It is wide enough, and basically makes it very clear that the soup is not only bad for the Internet infrastructure, but it's bad for jobs and the economy as well as anyone about doing anything in line. This is just an excerpt:
