That Didn't Take Long: Turntable.fm Blocked To All Non-US Users

Just last week, we wonder how long it will take before the music industry helped kill Turntable.fm, we consider one of the best music services we've seen in a very , long time. Apparently not take long at all if you are outside the United States. We started getting emails from people all over the weekend, letting us know that, officially Turntable.fm had blocked all users outside the United States after realizing that its current approach does not license technically covers them in the United States. The company insists that the idea of ??returning to other countries "as soon as possible", but you may find it much more complicated than they expect. After all, Pandora has exactly the same thing, by blocking all users outside the United States four years ago, promising to return as quickly as possible, but has not yet been able, even now that the company public and a giant Warchest. Part of the problem is that the music licensing agencies in global demand absolutely ridiculous rates from companies like Pandora, and I imagine Turntable.fm depressing news soon find out.

course, in the meantime, those of us in the United States can continue to use the service, and people in foreign countries that can be obtained via Proxy servers are not too hard to find, but basically stupid licensing schemes industry effectively to make this service very useful, as

helps people to adopt new music
