Telstra's 4G LTE network goes live in Australia, new HTC handset coming next year

Telstra customers awoke to a sun shower of good news this morning, when your provider 4G LTE network was launched in Australia - or in parts at least. After months of development and a soft launch in late August, Telstra has finally switched the switch on its broadband network today, bringing an LTE coverage in major cities, airports and other areas of the selection. The company said its new infrastructure offers download speeds of between two and 40 Mbps (25 percent increase over its 3G network which supported at launch), with download speeds ranging from one to ten Mbps for instant Telstra has improved its base stations in all the capitals of eight and 30 regional centers, although it plans to expand its coverage to 80 sites later this year. Subscribers can connect to the network with a Sierra Wireless USB dongle new (see photo above), provided they are located within five kilometers of the station in the capital, or within three miles of a regional center. Soon, however, Australians do not even need a key to bathe in the goodness of LTE, as Telstra plans to launch a new phone HTC 4G enabled in the first half of next year. At this point, details of the device based on Android (code name "HTC 4G") are in the dark, but the company says will feature a 4.5 inch display, eight megapixel camera and dual-core processor. For more details, head past the break for a couple of press releases.
