Apple CEO Tim Cook asks parishioners to have a little faith in investments
Cook, his flock, spoke publicly about the infallibility of the Catholic Church like Apple once used to refer to its own
Tim Cook has no CEO. He is the CEO of Apple. It is not administrative work is a messianic. He runs a technology company, how Michael Dell runs a technology company. Cook leads a minor religion.
Thus, when the price of Apple's stock dropped sharply, losing a third of its value in six months to plop down $ 475, and an important activist investor David Einhorn and Greenlight Capital aims to Apple and a journalist Bethany McLean and venerable nailed 95 theses on the wall indicating that Apple is a meager $ 200 - and, therefore, it is clear that it is time to Cook, among his flock.
Cook toured this week, offering soothing blessings on the value and the value of Apple. It will sit alongside Michelle Obama tonight at the State of the Union, which shows that Apple is a company that America can be proud of.
Today, Cook took the stage at the Goldman Sachs technology conference to do something unusual for a CEO Apple defended the actions of his company. He did not put it this way, of course, but this is the only reason that companies, especially those wary of the press Apple, go to these conferences is to convince investors to invest in the money in them. The goal is to make your case, or, as he calls Wall Street, "tell the story" of the action.
ConferenceGoldman, the food really settled into his role as a priest, trying to explain to investors why Apple deserves their faith. He spoke of the user experience superior to Apple how a prince of the church could lyricize on mass rituals, and said that companies that focus on technology "specifications" that the speed processor or the memory size, lack of grace in Apple creating a complete picture. "They want a-ha! Time, "said Cook, users." Spec is the enemy of the experience. "Translation: technical knowledge is nothing like faith.
When he talked about the controversy surrounding the new Apple products that can "cannibalize" the old, used cooking openly theological terms. He says that every Apple product cannibalize their brothers, but "creates a halo" around them - for people who want an iPad an iPhone, and so on. System that unites products are saints association, as Orthodox relics.
When we talk about Apple's controversial plan to keep your money in hand, spoke not in financial terms, but "do something good" and told someone who campaigned against Apple plan would be better to donate the money to charity. Cook, spoke about the infallibility of Apple, the Catholic Church once used to speak of himself. "The only thing I'll ever do is a product of shit," he said. "It is the only religion that we have: we must do something big, bold and ambitious."
cook knows that not only preaches to the converted. Apple has captured most of them and must now extend its users to evangelize product users Windows or Android. For the skeptics who remain, who are not sold on the user experience or membership ritual to Apple products, Cook offers the charm of a clearer conscience: he said he did not have much bad days, but when it does, enters an Apple Store and is "like Prozac." Who needs votive or pharmaceuticals when you complete a mini iPad?
Cook is an intelligent man, of course, but it goes well here on earth. Apple products are actually shit from time to time, as the first Apple TV, which has never succeeded, or iTunes Ping social network for music, and more recently, Apple Cards. In fact, the version of the Maps application disastrous September was the precursor to the Apple share price to fall. (Apple Maps, in fact, always miserable: the other day a friend of his application for Apple Instagrammed cards to reach "58 East 34th Street" in Manhattan What happened at Apple cards is a location in a virtual -uninhabited. of Saskatchewan, Canada.)
But Cook is not stupid. He knows he can not fight numbers with numbers, people lose track. Apple has never been this company. He is appealing to the better angels. He knows he is not the technology company's most popular, his appeal is not based on numbers. -Against arguments in favor of faith. Umberto Eco has ever compared Apple to the Catholic Church, Protestantism and Windows
"[Mac] is gay, friendly, conciliatory, it tells the faithful how they must proceed step by step to reach - if not the Kingdom of Heaven. - The time the document is printed is catechetical:. . the essence of revelation is dealt with via simple formulas and sumptuous icons Everyone has the right to salvation
DOS is Protestant, or even Calvinistic. It allows free interpretation of scripture, demands difficult personal decisions, imposes a subtle hermeneutics upon the user, and takes for granted the idea that not all can reach salvation. For the system to work, you need to interpret the program yourself: Far from the baroque community of revelers, the user is closed within the loneliness of his own inner torment "
- Let salvation. No doubt Apple needs something. Not in a desperate situation. The company is in perfect health, with strong earnings, dug $ 137 billion of cash in the bank, and a share price which, at $ 475 per share, is still very strong. However, earnings and share price stagnate and fall indicates that Apple should consider changing their habits.
- investors, journalists and experts liked to chew again. Reuters blogger Felix Salmon recently said that Apple should have its stock price, which is not based on anything that people say little about the future of Apple, and the company should not worry. Allan Sloan, a veteran columnist for Fortune, the theory that investors have been more willing to follow the herd and the "crazy swerve" Apple's stock is at this stage, more a source of entertainment to another thing. James Stewart, The New York Times, Wall Street deplored the inability to predict the future of the company. Bethany McLean, Reuters, argued that Apple was expensive in the first place and worth should not be more than $ 200 per share. many other people have said that Apple's stock was so astronomical, like Icarus, he would have crashed.
Salmon
One could say, quite plausible that the loss of $ 227 per share was a high price to pay for the card fiasco Apple. There was, however, that the problem of bad software itself, but Apple itself first showed complete incompetence capable, no one thought possible before.
