Amazon Wipes Customer's Account, Locks All Ebooks, Says 'Find A New Retailer' When She Asks Why

Techdirt has warned people for years not actually own the books they have on their Amazon Kindle. Demonstrating the most famous is the sudden disappearance of the e-book versions in 1984 and George Orwell Farm (you can not do these things.) But this is nothing compared to what a customer in Norway Amazon now says that the company has: approved by your Amazon Kindle account permanently locked and - all without explanation.

When your ebooks became available, Linn Jordet Nygaard, the client in question, contacted Amazon to find out what had happened. She has received the following response:

We found that your account is directly linked to another which has already been closed for abuse of our policies. As such, your account has been closed and opened Amazon.co.uk orders were canceled.

However, the account holder claims to know nothing of any account, and if she responded asking for more details:

As mentioned above, the Amazon.co.uk account was closed, as it has come to our attention that this account is related to an account previously blocked. Although we can not provide detailed information on how to link related accounts, please know that we have reviewed your account based on the information provided and regret to inform you that there will be reopening.

Please understand that closing an account is a permanent action. All other accounts that are opened will be closed as well. Thank you for your understanding with our decision.
vain, then, Amazon has simply reiterated that comes close was "linked" to another blocked account already, t wouldn 'say why, and stressed that prohibition was irrevocable, even to the point of refusing to allow the person accused of the crime unspecified open another account at any time in the future.

Again, Nygaard Jordet not without reason, trying to figure out what the problem was so he could try to solve the problem. This time, she received an email that is not only unnecessary voluntarily, but with a veneer of positive insult any false compassion that cheese was added for good measure:

regret that we have not been able to address your concerns to your satisfaction. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any additional information or action on these issues.
Good luck finding a distributor in a better position to meet their needs and not be able to provide any additional information or action on this issue.
course, this situation is completely Kafkaesque: convicted of a crime are not allowed to know, without appeal. Over on Boing Boing, Cory Doctorow has an interesting theory about what might be the problem here:
