Amazon Freaks Out About Sock Puppet Reviews And Deletes A Bunch Of Real Reviews

For some time there was a little mess on Amazon through so-called "sock puppets tests" or tests purchased by an author to help pad ranking of their books. We had not been covering all this because, frankly, was a non-story. There has never been a threat to the publishing industry and was always questionable magnitude of the problem. In addition, the idea that the writer would have to pay for advice that was just a sign that the authors did not really trust their work.

Unfortunately, Amazon has taken these complaints seriously. It seems that the plaintiffs were loud enough to hear and Amazon has done a number of things to address the issue of non-. First revised its standards for critical writing. bought for these tests against the rules. Then he took a lot of seemingly random comments. Joe Konrath shares her experience of reading on this subject:

were buried in a book for all of October, and do not pay much attention to anything else. When I finally took the time to catch up reading the email, I realized that I had many authors (more than twenty) contact me because their Amazon reviews disappeared. Some were those who wrote. Some were for his books. One writer said he had issued checks his fans - fans who were completely unknown to him -. It was deleted
I took a look at the comments and I saw that he had written more than fifty of them were removed, namely criticism of my colleagues did. I have not read the comments that people give me, but keep track of numbers and averages, and I lost a good amount of comments.
> Why Amazon mad deleting comments? Well, Konrath assumed, based on their responses from Amazon, it was the result of a new sock puppet automated screening program. Apparently works the same way as Google ContentID: all flag and everything and see what sticks. Actually, no. This is much worse than ContentID. ContentID at least has some kind of - weak effect - the notification, examination of the man and the appeal process. It is completely absent from the program to remove Amazon, Konrath as explained in his letter to Amazon.
My comments
follow all instructions of the Amazon, and received hundreds of helpful votes. Clients informed and helped sell books. They represent a significant investment of time on my part, and they were honest and accurate and transparent relationship with my author checked if I knew.
And these comments were deleted without warning or explanation.
Then, in his letter, explaining why the shares of Amazon was the right thing to do. Firstly because this action hurt more authors criticism puppet did.
Obviously
Amazon can do what you want on your site. It is not me to dictate policy. Your business, your rules, and I totally respect. But I think Jeff Bezos has a lot to treat customers fairly, and I have heard repeatedly that Amazon is of the opinion that the authors are valuable customers. So you should know that I am just one of many authors who are saddened by this, and these are only the ones I emailed.

trying to feed the community is upset by his actions. They believe that these measures are unjustified and harmful.
