30 Best iPhone and iPad apps this week

Jamie Oliver, Onavo Conde, Summly, Brian Cox, Profanisaurus Viz, James Bond, The xx, William Shatner and more

It's time for our weekly review of the best new iPhone and iPad released this week in the Apple App Store, and it's a bumper selection.

As always, the list does not include games, as its own separate post: selections of the week for iOS includes titles like Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Bubble Island, Hellfire, and Gizmonauts Squadron RCAF.

Celebri-chef Jamie Oliver has his own magazine, and is now available on iOS, as well as in printed form. Individual questions or sold £ 2.99 £ 3.99 in-app purchases, or you can subscribe. Wait galore recipes, the latest edition focuses on the cuisine of Christmas.

Onavo iPhone has become an essential download thank you to its ability to compress the data used to make your additional monthly allowance. Now, the company behind a new application that helps you understand what applications are absorption data, the analysis of the use during the month, with beautiful graphics.

Summly promises "pocket for the new iPhone", trawling hundreds of news sites, pulling in articles from your RSS feed, then convert them into 400-character summaries, which can be returned by the use of a pure gesture interface. If you are considering an alternative to the default music player on the iPhone, in: the game is well worth a look. Not least because of its beautiful typographic control centered design gesture, and seriously to eradicate agile navigation through even the largest digital music collection.

Brian Cox Wonders of the Universe (£ 3.99)


app planetary Brian Cox has been for some time on the iPad, but now HarperCollins has released a native version for the iPhone also boil their texts, videos and photos to something that works well to the smaller screen.

This is very clear: an application "to show you how to do things in the real world," with the tutorials that comes from using other Howdo. Threadlife is to collect a lot of buzz this week, thanks to its goal of "a video is as easy as taking pictures." This involves shooting three seconds of video clips, which are then "stitched" together to longer stories, or "son," including their own videos and / or other users.

Dennis Publishing Viz delighted fans with the launch of its iPhone application Profanisaurus early 2012. Now, there is an iPad version of sweary dictionary with 12000 definitions too difficult to read your grandparents.

Route social demand has ardent fans who enjoy its status as private version of Facebook and other services. Has always been a good thing, but is now available on the iPad too, with great photos and movies / music advances / books, including the ability to post messages of your day in a beautiful landscape view. It makes very good use of the big screen.

James Bond: 50 years of movie posters


As viewers get excited for the new James Bond Skyfall, DK is an application showing an art poster to promote the previous films. 105 posters are available with accompanying text of "Bond expert" (now that's a job worth) Alastair Dougall.

This is pretty amazing: an application to share photos of Coca-Cola, with a sober and elegant design, and the ability to share photos on Facebook or Twitter, and own community of Coca-Cola Places happy. The question is whether this type of application is attempting brand anyone outside of Instagram, Camera Facebook, Path, and other popular applications.

There are a number of major entertainment companies fall into app-education (appducation?) With MTV later. Your new application is designed to teach children about animals: what they are, where they live and what they eat. Rewards a niche for decorating and the ability to record up to four children separately with the application should be a hit with parents.
