Seagate Announces Terabit Areal Density Milestone, Promises 60TB Hard Drives

Seagate became the first hard drive manufacturer to achieve a storage density of 1 terabit (1 trillion bits) per square inch, the company said Monday. Accomplished this through a technology called art recording heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR). The company expects that some readers of 3.5 inch hard drives based on this technology's ability to achieve "extraordinary" storage in the next decade. Hit the jump for more.
