App Store reaches 15bn downloads

Average 75 Downloads for each iPhone, iPod touch users

15 billion downloads since the store launched in July 2008: Apple has announced a new milestone for its App Store. The company also says that it has IOS developers more than $ 2.5 billion from the sale of its iPhone and iPad paid apps on the store.

Apple said at WWDC this year that there are more than 200 IOS devices since the launch of the first iPhone sold, this indicates that an attachment of 75 downloads per app iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Meanwhile, the developer paid gross sales stat (including Apple 's 30% cut) of $ 3.5 billion from the App Store since its launch. Apple does not break their download statistics between paid and free apps.

"In just three years of the revolutionary App Store has seen the most exciting and successful software market in the world has ever \," Schiller said in a statement. "Thanks to all our amazing developer who filled it to meet with more than 425,000 of the coolest applications, and our more than 200 million users iOS 15 billion downloads."

On the milestones, the interesting thing is Apple 's press release provide the choice of developers, their own adulatory quotes. They come from Smule (Ocarina, Piano Magic), Epic Games (Earth HD), Callaway Digital Arts (apps for Martha Stewart and Sesame Street), rather than more established brands and game publishers.

Google said in May crowned on its I / O conference that Android Market had 4.5 billion downloads, 100m Android devices generate around 500 downloads per month. Apple 's App Store passed the 10 billion marks in January, meaning his monthly download total closer to 1 billion.

Nokia said recently that its Ovi Store generates 6m downloads a day - so 180m a month, although this includes wallpapers and ringtones as well as apps. RIM's BlackBerry App World is doing half that amount: 3m a day, and so 90m a month.

Apple 's decision to announce the 15 billion milestone comes after the end of the second quarter of 2011, but before it announces its financial results for the quarter - that is preparing the markets for what awaits impressive numbers.

It is not all good news for the App Store this week, however. The company has lost his bid for a preliminary injunction against Amazon for the latter 's use of the term to describe his Appstore Android-focused store.

In a ruling, the U.S. District Court of Northern California that Apple is not that his "App Store" character is famous in the sense that "celebrity" and "known" founded. While the court accepted that Apple spent a lot of money "for advertising and public relations, and generate an amount of about sales and downloads," there are also indications that the term 'App Store' is used by other companies receive as a descriptive term for a place to create software applications for mobile devices ".
