Insert Coin finalist: Radiator Labs rethinks steam heat, we go hands-on

If you've lived in a building that has been heated by steam, there is a good chance that you have a comfort level experienced were far from ideal. Now, Insert Coin finalists radiator Labs is working on a solution on the market that will make your living space more bearable, and as an added bonus, you will save energy at the same time. We took a moment to catch Marshall Cox, co-founder Laboratories radiator here to Expand, who explained that the simple and elegant solution that the company has in store.

At its most basic level, what you have is an oven in the radiator to be completed by a temperature sensor and an exhaust fan glove. Whenever the ambient heat reaches your level of comfort together (which can be controlled from the Web or a smartphone application), the fan turns off and the insulation - material we described as the ironing board - prevents heat gas additional exhaust. From there, the steam is distributed to other apartments in need, instead of turning on the camera in a sauna. Beyond this element environmentally, laboratories radiator are the integration of a phase change material in the product that can store energy and heat an apartment for up to four hours using the boiler.

deeper into madness, laboratories radiator is to explore some ingenious technologies like Xbee mesh network, which is used to assess the benefits of energy saving in the game. Although this component is not included in the public version, you could see commercial facilities, including wireless communication with the boiler itself. In combination with the phase change material, which would be a boiler less often - seems like a good idea, if you ask us. We are told that the crowd funding radiator laboratories will be looking for your product this fall, which will be available in the price range of $ 250.
