Spec Ops: The Line - review
PC/PS3/Xbox 360, £ 39.99, 18 + certificate; Yager/2K Games
biography of David Kushnerof id Software, John Carmack appointment to postulate the idea that video games are stories and stories in porn movies -. This should be there, but not so important
If ever there was a video game that is determined opposition to Carmack's opinion in this regard, Spec Ops: The Line. Yager new third-person shooter is all about history. In fact, the story is its greatest asset. Whether a success or failure depends entirely on the willingness of players to participate with their history as they look beyond their gameplay irregular and unsatisfactory.
The game opens with an impressive number of parts and does not involve a helicopter chase through the rooftops of Dubai. The player controls a soldier firing a machine gun from the door of a helicopter as the swarm of enemy helicopters and vehicles of the rumor. As the game unfolds, the player tears through the inevitable buildings and tearing the roof of high-caliber rounds in his attempt to repel their attackers.
Soldiers
traps contemporary and high-octane sense of the scene immediately recall the CoD: Modern Warfare games, but closer inspection reveals something more: the round trip between the player character and ally AI pilot sounds strained and cracked - a million miles from the professional zeal of the soldiers of CoD. The chase ended with a crash, then back to a plot a few weeks ago.
Dubai, it is in ruins after a cataclysmic sandstorm destroyed much of the city, and cut the outside world. After a call, sent a U.S. military called the 33rd Regiment deflected home the progress of Afghanistan and went to the buried city. It was some time ago and it turns out that the command of U.S. high even heard of 33, or their commander, Colonel Konrad, for a while.
It sends a squad of three men from Delta to Dubai to find out why Konrad does not respond to his attempts to contact him. The team consists of Adams, a great shooter, Lugo, a largemouth bass sniper. And their commander, Captain Walker, a man who served under Konrad in Afghanistan and considers it both a hero and patriot
saves the opening game takes place in minutes and this configuration is typical of the drum tight pacing of the plot of the game is hardly an ounce of fat on the history and, in Despite Spec Ops: The Line has a couple of songs about how great he plays, the player never feels like they are moved from one place to another to activate another scene monotonous.
Unlike other shooters that offer modern army, the game's story has little evidence of contemporary action films, the epic battle despite strange weapon. Instead, Yager is the goal for Spec Ops brave territory: The line, which gives up the game macho habit of this type to something much darker, Apocalypse Now - and, by extension, the heart of Joseph Conrad, Dark - hangs over the proceedings.
As Walker and the leading men in Dubai, will soon realize that something very troubling has happened after the arrival of Konrad in the city. They come through refugee shoot anyone wearing a uniform of the U.S. military, the corpses hanging from lampposts and overpasses and walls covered with photos of their loved ones. These signs in order to break into the city soon give way to scenes of extreme trauma, to test the determination of Walker and his men, the basic relationship is soon to collapse under the weight of what they see around them.
The feeling that madness was allowed to evacuate is compounded by the fact that all this horror is surrounded by the remains of a bastion of luxury and opulence. Dubai The game can be ruined, but what about what remains in tact is sitting next to the bright color of the hair-raising scenes in it. At one point, Walker and his men are floundering in a mass grave, knee-deep in the charred bodies. The following, who is standing in the lobby of a hotel to watch two giant giraffes Golden accompanying a marble staircase in front of them, like fish swimming in an aquarium in the ground beneath their feet. This strange shock of opulence and blood gives the city an atmosphere of another world and is introduced into the wild atmosphere of the story.
Unfortunately, the gameplay more and more all the action in the story is not so well. The controls are fairly simple: LT and RT to aim and shoot, respectively, and weapons of change, the player to lace cover, X is in charge, B is a melee attack or vaults of players most of the near the walls and bombing active LB. The right bumper allows players to target enemies with your team members and the D-Pad switches between the projectile and a nice touch, Walker put a silencer makes certain weapons by the death of stealth.
- Unfortunately we can not be said for Spec Ops: The Line. Walker hit a hedge on the slides, and moving the stick changes its position, while hugging the wall, but any movement away from the bridge and Walker is both. In the crossfire, it can be a bit problematic. In addition, parts of the roof have a bad habit that will throw line in the player, while not hiding their crosses. This leads to an instance where the player will think it has attracted a drop on an enemy, but when you pull the trigger to empty half a clip of ammunition on a piece of scenery inches from the face of Walker. If they have an RPG handy in this situation are toast.
